This was my first experience with Google Cardboard-based virtual reality. I bought this set wanting to try out the technology without making a big investment, and I've been happy with it. In terms of the technology itself, as I've seen someone else mention, I've never quite felt impressed, but it can be a lot of fun. But, regardless of what headset you go with, the technology is going to be the same. In terms of this product itself, I've been happy for the price.

After I had this for a short amount of time, I upgraded to a $30 plastic headset, something a little more permanent, and I have been surprised to find I prefer this cheap, cardboard headset. The plastic headset, although better build quality, is much heavier and uncomfortable. And since the technology is whatever your phone can do, which headset you use does not make a difference in experience. The one thing that is better about the more expensive headset is that it does a better job of blocking out your... Read more

First off, here is the link to my pretty lengthy breakdown of Google Cardboard style VR when compared to full blown headsets such as PS VR, Oculus Rift, and the HTC Vive (I have experience with these and have personally owned two versions of the Rift).

Pros
-cheap
-cheap apps/free apps
-works with MOST phones (see cons)
-easy to set up and to double up on the best "pro"... it's super cheap

Cons
-does NOT fit larger phones especially if they have bigger cases such as an Otter Box
-very uncomfortable. I did some cutting and adding padding in the nose area to make it tollerable
-3D is far less convincing than even a Samsung VR
-very small FOV (field of view)
-you will be done with it in a day or two most likely
-too uncomfortable to watch movies on (even mildly long YouTube stuff IMO)
-feels like your expensive phone could fall right out

This cardboard VR headset is convenient, albeit difficult to manage compared to something more expensive and solid. It comes as parts in bags and you have to put it together. The adhesive pads that hold the Velcro head band on is absolute rubbish; it wouldn't stay for me. This resulted in me actually stapling the pads on to prevent them from coming off. Also, despite the attempt, the lack of viable cushion around the nose leaves the weight of your phone on the bridge of your nose. This is surprisingly uncomfortable and I can't seem to find a way to remedy this problem. But overall, it works fine enough. For that, there are no complaints otherwise.
